More Rare classic IP will return in the future

by on13 January 2015

Renewal of trademark just protects the IP

More Rare classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata, Blast Corps, and Battletoads will revived someday according to Microsoft Studios boss Ken Lobb.

While Microsoft has kind of balked at investing in classic franchises, they apparently do know the value of the IP and the fan base that is waiting for it to happen.

In an interview with the Inner Circle podcast, Lobb says that Phil Spencer gets the value of the IP. Just because the company is renewing the trademark, it really means that they are protecting the IP and nothing beyond that.

Because the trademark for a game is being renewed, it is not a safe assumption that work has already started on a new title for that franchise. Players have to show a little patience because only so many games can be made.
