Nintendo Switch can’t save back-ups

by on06 March 2017

All your saved games could be lost to history

The new Nintendo Switch will not allow you to backup the save files for Nintendo Switch games.

According to a company faq, Nintendo says that save data is kept on the system’s internal storage and “cannot be saved or copied to a microSD card”.

If the internal memory fills up, the FAQ says some of it will need to be deleted to make room for new save files.

For those who think this might not be a problem, switch internal memory is only 32GB, nearly a quarter of which is taken up by the OS so space is going to be at a premium.

Both the Switch’s handheld and home console predecessors allowed users to transfer and backup save data. The Wii U allowed you to save files to USB storage devices while the 3DS allowed you to transfer save data to other 3DSs.

The Switch only allows you to delete what’s already there.

This means that if your Switch breaks, or is lost, you have lost everything you have accomplished. Not that the scale of things that add ups to being significant in terms of world events, but it is still annoying.
