192 versus 216 Shaders

After a rather
unusual and strange launch of new GTX 260 we are starting to get some initial feedback from the market. The suggested retail price should be roughly the same as the old GTX 260 and there is no strict guideline as to how you should brand your card. This might indicate that the old GTX 260 will mildly drop in price.

Someone calls “the new” card GTX 260 square, someone is using the other distinction, but this renamed and re-flashed edition of the card will certainly add even more confusion to an ultra confused market.

We learned that you should get up to a nine percent performance increase, but this depends on the game you are using and whether an additional 24 Shader units at the same clock can really push the card much faster.

The chip is still 65nm and there is a hope that the new GTX 280 with 55nm process might make it to Q4 2008.
