Great success for Nvidia

Renaming the G92b-based Geforce 9800GTX+ to Geforce GTS 250 was one of the best things Nvidia did in 2009. The rename worked and everyone wants to buy Geforce GTS 250 as this name definitely sounds better than the old 9800GTX+.

The hard reality is that consumers are too naive to notice the tricks of Nvidia's mighty marketing machine, but as we said, Nvidia doesn’t care much as the strategy works.

In this case the rebranding worked perfectly and only a small portion of people who buy the cards will know that GTS 250 and Geforce 9800GTX+ are the same thing based on a 55nm G92b chip and that the only difference is the bios.

Starting at €95 this card is a great deal, we won’t argue with that.
