Power to the HTPC

In order to refresh its offer of HTPC oriented, low-profile graphics cards, Sparkle has announced a rather interesting one based on the good old G92 chip, the low-profile GTS 250.

The card has everything that you would expect from a GTS 250 such as DirectX 10 support, 128 processing cores, a 256-bit memory interface and DVI and HDMI outputs, but on a low-profile PCB. The only thing that was left out, is a support for SLI.

The card will be available with either 512MB or 1GB of GDDR3 memory, and features lowered clocks, probably to keep the G92 GPU at reasonable temperatures. Although it has a dual slot cooler with a small fan, the card doesn't work at reference 738/1836/2200MHz clocks but has been pulled down to 600MHz for the GPU, 1500MHz for shaders and either 1600 or 1800 MHz depending on the memory amount.

It still needs a single 6-pin PCI-Express connector which will be a bit hard considering that most PSUs in low profile cases aren't equipped with one, but we guess that you can always use the included adapter.

The card should appear in retail pretty soon, but the price hasn't been announced. We are sure that it will find its way into some HTPC systems.
