No surprise that Xbox 360 will get 3D support

While Microsoft has been pretty quiet about the potential of their 3D gaming strategy for the Xbox 360, no one has even thought for a minute that they didn’t have one.  Sources are whispering to us that Microsoft has put together a partnership with LG that will see the two companies work together on a joint initiative in the 3D space.

Apparently, the deal will start by seeing the Xbox 360 marketed with LG LCD HDTV bundles that will be 3D-ready. From the whispers that we hear we believe that Microsoft will officially announce 3D support Xbox 360 in conjunction with a number of upcoming 3D titles for the platform at E3. It is believed that the 3D partnership with LG will kick off in late June and the bundles will first be marketed in South Korea and later to the Asia Pacific region.

Unlike the PlayStation 3 which required a firmware update in order to enable 3D support on that platform, our sources tell us that the Xbox 360 will not actually need such an update. While some rumblings have suggested in the past that 3D support was coming for the Xbox 360, we have not actually been able to confirm that developers were creating titles with 3D support for the platform.  It is now believed that announcements on which titles might be offering 3D support are expected to be announced at E3, as well.
