Nvidia intros GTX 460 SE

Slow Edition
Nvidia has introduced a new version of the GTX 460, which is arguably the most competitive product the green team currently has to offer.

We're not exactly sure what the SE stands for, so we'll just call it Slow Edition. Compared to the GTX 460 768MB, the SE has fewer cores, but it compensates with a wider memory bus and more memory. To be precise, the SE packs 288 CUDA cores and a 256-bit memory bus with 1GB of memory. The "old" GTX 460 packed 336 cores and had a 192-bit bus.

However, the SE is reportedly better suited for some applications and its tessellation performance should be better than the old 768MB card. However, the SE runs at 650MHz/1300MHz for the core and memory, while the plain GTX 460 is clocked at 675MHz/1350MHz. As a result, the SE has a memory bandwidth of 108.8GB/s, which is slower than the GTX 460 1GB, but still superior to the 768GB version thanks to the wider bus.

Nvidia is touting it as a better DX11 solution than the Radeon HD 5770 and it's expected to retail at the same price as the 768MB card. It's worth noting that the HD 5770 has been on the market for quite a while and it will get a successor and/or rebrand quite soon. Still, the SE should offer quite good value for money.
