GloFo to deal with Fusion
It is not all over for TSMC. They might lose 28nm designs on future Fusion APU chips including Krishna and Wichita to GloFo, but it looks like TSMC will continue to make AMD’s graphics.

TSMC has years of experience of making these super complex 3 billion or more transistor chips and it looks like AMD plans to stick with them for the time being.

At this time the only manufacturer of AMD’s 28nm graphics is TSMC and Southern islands looks to be TSMC exclusive. AMD doesn’t want to risk and do the production of these ultra complex chips in GloFo, at least not with its first 28nm generation and we suspect that AMD doesn’t have enough resources to do two separate 28nm designs for TSMC and GloFo.

This is quite a good news for Nvidia, as the company has a much closer relationship with TSMC and it won’t have to worry that GloFo will come out with a miraculous chip.

We will keep a close eye on the plans to see if there will be any hints that GloFo might actually come out with its own 28nm high end graphics production.
