Asus Radeon HD 7970 DirectCu II detailed
Triple-slot behemoth
Following the recently announced Powercolor and Gigabyte non-reference HD 7970 graphics cards, Asus' own Radeon HD 7970 DirectCu II has now been pixellized. Featuring a large dual-fan and triple-slot DirectCu II cooler as well as a specially designed PCB with an improved VRM.
In addition to the custom PCB with 12-phase (10+1+1) Asus Digi+ VRM supplied with power by two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors, the new Asus Radeon HD 7970 DirectCu II card will feature additional overclocking headroom and additional voltage tuning. The card will be set to run at 1000MHz for the GPU and 5.6GHz for the sam 3GB of GDDR5 memory (925MHz/5.5GHz on reference card).
The cooling is done by a large triple slot, dual 100mm fan cooler that also features a sort of contact plate as well as a backplate. The heatsink, or rather two heatsinks are directly connected to the GPU via six heatpipes. Asus changed quite a few things on this one so the outputs will include two DVI and four DisplayPort outputs.
Unfortunately, last pieces of info that include price and the actual launch date haven't been detailed.
