The FirePro W9000 leads the pack

AMD has now officially launched its full lineup of new FirePro workstation class graphics cards that includes no less than four new models. Based on AMD's Graphics Core Next architecture, the new FirePro lineup is aimed at markets that include CAD engineers, media designers and digital signage users.

As noted, the new FirePro lineup includes a total of four different models kicking off with high-performance FirePro W9000 graphics card that provides 4 TFLOPs of single precision, 1 TFLOP of double precision floating point compute power and comes with 6GB of GDDR5 memory. The next in line is the FirePro W8000 with 3.23 TFLOP of single and 806GFLOPS of double precision compute performance and 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The W9000 and W8000 targets high-performance markets.

The mid-range lineup includes FirePro W7000 and W5000 graphics cards that offer 2.4 TFLOPs of single precision and 152 GFLOPs of double precision compute performance in W7000 case and up to 1.27 TFLOPs and 80 GFLOPs of double precision floating point compute performance in the case of W5000. The FirePro W7000 packs 4GB of GDDR5 memory while the W5000 comes with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

AMD was keen to note that even the AMD FirePro W7000 is up to five times as fast as the competing solution in single-precision compute performance, while the FirePro W9000, thanks to GCN architecture and GeometryBoost technology, delivers 1.95 billion triangles per second, 1.5 times more than competitors' most powerful workstation graphics card.

The entire new FirePro lineup features support for PCI-Express 3.0 as well as AMD PowerTune and ZeroCore power technologies.

The entire new FirePro lineup is available, according to AMD, and will be available in Supermicro SuperWorkstations as well as new systems from HP and Dell with a price set at US $3,999 for W9000, US $1,599 for the W8000, US $899 for the W7000 and US $599 for the AMD FirePro W5000.
