Performance, Mantle and Eyefinity improvements

AMD is working on a new Catalyst 14.6 Beta driver which will not only bring some performance improvements for the recently released Watch Dogs title from Ubisoft, but it will also bring some rather interesting improvements to the Catalyst Control Center UI, AMD Mantle API as well as the new Eyefinity 3.0 with mulitple modes and mixed resolutions.

As far as the game performance improvements are concerned, AMD is expectedly focusing on the recently released Ubisoft Watch Dogs game. It promises over 25 percent higher performance with single-card configurations as well as significant performance improvement in multi-GPU configurations with Crossfire profiles. In addition to the Watch Dogs, the new driver will also be the launch driver for the Murdered: Soul Suspect game which is scheduled to launch next week.

The performance improvements are just a small part of the new AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta driver as it will also bring some UI improvements to the Catalyst Control Center as well as new color management controls. It also brings some improvements, or updates, for Mantle API which now works with Thief in multi-GPU Crossfire configurations as well as works on AMD notebook Enduro configurations.

The biggest update is aimed at AMD's Eyefinity, which is no longer limited by resolution. While it was previously limited to be used with the same resolution displays, the new Eyefinity 3.0 now offers mixed resolution modes, Fit mode, Fill mode and Expand mode.

The new Eyefinity Fit mode uses fixed vertical resolution among the displays thus adapting the higher resolution display with a hidden area. The Expand mode uses the full resolution of the higher-resolution screen while lower-resolution screens get what is called "unavailable areas". The last is the Fill mode, which uses native resolutions of the displays with no "unavailable areas".
