According to a fresh set of rumors, the third Pascal GP104 GPU SKU could end up to be the GTX 1060 (Ti), a cut-down version of the GTX 1070.

According to a report coming from Videocardz.com, earlier rumors pointed out that Nvidia will launch three different SKUs based on the upcoming Pascal GP104 GPU. These include the GP104-400-A1 GPU, which should be the GTX 1080, or whatever Nvidia decide to name it in the end, the GP104-200-A1, which should be the GTX 1070, and the third, GP104-150-A1 GPU which could come later and be the GTX 1060 (Ti).

With its Maxwell lineup, Nvidia left a pretty big gap between the GTX 960 and GTX 970, which allowed AMD to position its lineup accordingly and hit that US $200 to $300 sweetspot. It appears that with Pascal lineup, Nvidia will line its graphics cards a bit better and the GTX 1060 (Ti) could be just what the market needs in that price range.

The original report came from Chiphell.com and it suggest that the third SKU, powered by GP104-150-A1 GPU, should be a heavily cut-down version of the GP104 GPU, which means both lower CUDA core count as well as a 192-bit memory interface paired up with 6GB GDDR5 of memory. This is a significant cut compared to the GTX 1080/1070 which should pack up to 8GB of memory on a 256-bit memory interface.

This third SKU will have a hard time on the market as earlier rumors suggest that AMD's Polaris 10 Ellesmere GPU is targeting that same sweetspot so it will be interesting to see which company will get that lucrative market segment, especially since these graphics cards are the ones that sell in volume.

Earlier reports also suggested that GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 could launch in early-June while the third SKU could follow in mid-June but recent teasers suggest that Nvidia might at least announce its lineup earlier at a dedicated event on May 6th but the third SKU, GTX 1060 (Ti), could come later. AMD is expected to unveil its Polaris GPU architecture graphics cards at Computex 2016, which kicks off on May 31st.
