Based on Nvidia's 16nm GP106 Pascal GPU, the Geforce GTX 1060 will feature 1280 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs as well as come with 6GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 192-bit memory interface. The GPU works at up to 1.7GHz for the GPU Boost clock and Nvidia claims it can go as high as 2.0GHz with overclocking, which is an impressive number.
It needs a single 6-pin PCIe power connector, which is not a big surprise considering its low 120W TDP. It also features three DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b and one DVI display output.
According to Nvidia, the new Geforce GTX 1060 is on average 15 percent faster in some top gaming titles and over 75 percent more power efficient than the closest competitive product, which puts a lot of pressure on AMD's recently launched Radeon RX 480 graphics card. Nvidia also claims that you will get a "performance of the GTX 980", and with a price starting at US $249, Nvidia might have a winner in the mid-range market.
Unfortunately, we won't see any official reviews before July 19th, when the official NDA is set to expire. The new GTX 1060 is also expected to be available worldwide on the same date. As it was the case with the earlier launched Geforce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, the Geforce GTX 1060 will also be available as a special limited Founders Edition (which is a fancy new name for reference edition), priced at US $299, a US $50 premium.
As noted, select review sites got the samples of the new GTX 1060 and should have plenty of time to bring reviews when NDA gets lifted on Tuesday, July 19th at 14:00 BST / 15:00 CET.
