If the round, silver watch looks familiar, you’ve probably been keeping track of our wearable section, since the Mlais watch appears to share a lot of DNA with the Elephone ELE watch, which is based on the same hardware.
The Mlais smartwatch is based on MediaTek’s MT2601 SoC clocked at 1.2GHz. It has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage. The 1.3-inch round display is a TFT job and the resolution is 360x360, which amounts to 276PPI.
The watch will apparently ship with Android Wear 5.1, with support for 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1. It features a 400mAh battery, just like the Elephone ELE watch. Basically, both watches appear to share the exact same hardware, and we’re expecting similar devices from a few other Chinese brands.
The good news is that the Mlais watch (and the Elephone ELE) should end up on the cheap side. The ELE is expected to go for about $115, while the Mlais is currently listed at $123 at GearBest. The bad news, as usual, is that no MT2601 device is shipping yet.
One vendor informed us that mass availability is expected sometime in December, but we are not sure whether or not this applies to Mlais and Elephone models. Still, it’s nice to see that these round and relatively attractive Android Wear watches selling for less than half the price of an LG Urbane or Moto G.
