Motherboards don't stand for comfort any more

Asustek is shifting its development focus to Internet of Things (IoT), robot and virtual /argument reality (VR/AR) products after seeing that motherboards and graphics are going to suffer for a good long while.

According to Digitimes In addition to its robot Zenbo, Asustek is planning to announce a mobile VR device in the third quarter and will unveil mobile AR and PC VR solutions in the first quarter of 2017.

It is a bit of a risk because VR and robots are still new and there has not been much demand. Meanwhile Asustek's third-generation ZenFone-series smartphones are set to launch in Taiwan, Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the US in July. Asustek will launch three smartphones under the third-generation ZenFone product line, the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Max and ZenFone 3 Deluxe, using either Qualcomm or MediaTek solutions.

This is going into the entry level price range ($153-212) but Asustek wants to get into the mid-range too. Asustek has not given up on  notebooks, in addition to ZenBook 3, Asustek's Transformer 3/Pro-series will be released at the end of June.
