LiFi-integrated lighting and networking

First of a new, wider range of LiFi-enabled lights hits the market that its makers claim is faster, simpler and more efficient.

PureLiFi uses light to create next-generation wireless networks, has provided its LiFi technology for a new range of LiFi-integrated lighting products that will extend to panel lights and other commercial form factors to allow for flexible deployments.

The product has been launched by French company Lucibel, the designer and manufacturer of next generation lighting products and solutions based on LED technology.

It is the second generation of Lucibel LiFi luminaire products, which enables internet access through light emitted from the light cone, based on pureLiFi technology.

This new generation product for Lucibel with pureLiFi’s LiFi technology inside significantly advances form factor and ease of use. The second generation can manage an internet speed of 54 Mbps compared with 42 Mbps for the first generation.

Other improved features include an increase in the number of users simultaneously able to use a secure connection.

The product design of this second generation has been revised by Lucibel to allow a better integration of the 'Lighting' and 'Connectivity' functionalities. Additionally, Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, which eliminates the need for an electrical cable, is now integrated natively in LiFi luminaires.

pureLiFi CEO Alistair Banham said: “We have achieved a more efficient, 30 percent faster LiFi module with easy integration into Lucibel’s fantastic design. The result is a product that is more viable than ever as a solution to provide internet access through light.”
