7200RPM and 16MB of cache

Western Digital has updated its Scorpio Black HDD line with a 500GB model that will be available under the model name WD5000BEKT.

Despite the fact that Western Digital launched a 1TB 2.5-inch HDD as a part of its Scropio Blue HDD lineup, most consumers were waiting on the 500GB Scorpio Black as these most usually end up in a notebook if you decide to go for a better WD 2.5-inch HDD.

The new WD Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5-inhc HDD spins at 7200RPM, uses SATA 3Gbps interface and feature 16MB of cache. Unlike its 1TB Scorpio Blue brother, this one isn't 12mm thick and should easily fit in most notebooks. The only missing link is the 500GB Scorpio Black with free-fall sensor which should come at an unspecified later date.

The new Scorpio Black 500GB HDD still isn't listed online but we guess that it should show up pretty soon. In the mean time, you can find it over at WD's Scorpio Black product page here.
