Samsung unveiled quite a few new OEM-based SSDs at the Samsung 2016 SSD Forum in Japan, including new SATA-based 2.5-inch CM871a and PM871a value-oriented SSD based on the new MAIA controller.

In addition to the earlier revealed SM961 and PM961 M.2 NVMe OEM SSDs as well as the PM971 BGA SDD, Samsung has also unveiled two new value-oriented OEM SSDs based on the new MAIA controller, 16nm TCL NAND and TLC V-NAND and SATA 6Gbps interface.

To be available in 128GB and 256GB capacities, the new CM871a uses Samsung's new MAIA controller which supports multiple types of NAND, including TLC and 3D V-NAND. The new CM871a SSD will be based on 16nm TLC NAND and offers sequential read and write performance of up to 535/215 MB/s (515MB/s with TurboWrite) as well as random 4K performance of up to 97K for read and up to 59K IOPS for write (88K IOPS with TurboWrite). As most TLC NAND-based SSDs, the CM871a will also use SLC mode for rapid caching.

As the new MAIA controller supports multiple versions of NAND, it does not come as a suprise that Samsung decided to pair it up with TLC 3D V-NAND as well, making the PM871a OEM SSD. It will be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities and offer similar performance as the CM871a.

Spotted at PC Watch, there is no word on the price or the availability date for these new OEM SSDs and there is no word when and will these SSDs will come to consumer market.
