Big win for Europe
A moment ago, Intel´s CEO Pat Gelsinger announced the start of high-volume manufacturing on the Intel 4 process technology at Fab 34 in Leixlip, Ireland.
Modems are hard
Even though Apple acquired Intel's modem business unit, the company failed to materialize its in-house 5G modem that works in the worldwide market. Shortly before the iPhone's announcement, it was announced that Apple still sticks with the Qualcomm modems.
Dual socket 576 E-cores
Intel surprised the audience at the Innovation 2023 event, showing a new Sierra Forest data center processor with a twist. Intel has previously announced that the Sierra Forest has up to 144 Efficiency cores. Still, Gelsinger surprised the audience by showing the two tiles on the same package, resulting in a 288-core CPU.
Too expensive to use A17 Pro for vanilla iPhone 15
Apple is the first of many who started using the TSMC N3 3nm process for its latest SoC, and even for Apple, it is not easy to eat the manufacturing cost.
Rick Bergman, Scott Herkelman, and Saeid Moshkelani SVP and GM of Client are gone
Some of our colleagues jumped to the conclusion Scott Herkelman is getting replaced by Jack Huynh who now works as a Senior Vice President and GM, Computing and Graphics Business Group. This is actually the job that Jack is taking over from Bergman. It is not clear why Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, is imposing such radical changes at this time, but we might have some ideas.
Powered on and runs AI stable diffusion
Lunar Lake Intel 20A consumer processor, expected to launch next year, made a surprise appearance as a part of Pat Gelsinger´s keynote. The demo showed silicon in good shape running the Windows operating system and the AI application.
Game-changing battery life
Intel’s CEO Pat Galsinger just announced Meteor Lake, and the company believes that this is a disruptive product. One specific feature made me a believer, as at Intel Technology Tour Malaysia, Tim Wilson, vice president of Intel’s Design Engineering Group and general manager of SoC Design, detailed the architecture behind Meteor Lake mobile processors, which will deliver game-changing performance and power efficiency for the PC industry when launched later this year.

Apple has finally acknowledged that it has been working for years on the eXtended Reality product. XR is a collaborative term that unifies an Augmented and Virtual reality device under one umbrella. Apple’s announcement shared sufficient details to create excitement around VR and give us some idea about the device, but it left some key elements out, including storage options and RAM.
Industry and US counterparts are not happy
The European Commission’s draft on the new regulation proposal on Standard Essential Patents created quite a reaction across the industry, which has cited major concerns. The general idea behind the update is the improve the SEP licensing process and encourage innovation while promoting competition and satisfying consumers’ interests. What the draft actually does is the complete opposite of that.
All the money goes to manufacturing
There has been much talk about the latest CHIPS and Science Act, through which the US is attempting to advance an industrial strategy to revitalize domestic manufacturing jobs and secure semiconductor supply chains. This legislation is spectacular and well-timed, given recent de-globalization events and China's constant threat to Taiwan. And just days ago, TSMC had an event including POTUS in Arizona fab.
