Wants to clear out inventory

Purveyor of locked in gadgets for those with more money than sense, Apple has started to discount its old iPhone 3GS gear in a bid to get rid of its out-of-date inventory.

Apple officially announced the iPhone 4 last week and rendered the 3G old technology, even if it was remarkably similar to the new phone. Apparently if you bought the Apple device in recent weeks, the company is now price matching, giving refunds back for the difference in prices. You can also can get an upgrade to the new, improved iPhone 4 instead of the refund.

The rules apply to anyone who bought a 3GS after May 7th. Owners with a 16GB model will get a $50 credit and 32GB owners will get a $100 credit. To get an iPhone 4, the device is a straight trade, unless you are moving up in storage capacity.
