Computex 08: Dual SIM, TV and more

E-TEN might not be the most famous of the Windows Mobile device makers, but with Acer’s recent purchase of the company, we’re sure they’ll soon gain a lot more fame with their Glofiish range of devices.

Starting with the dual SIM DX900, which features one GSM and one HSDPA radio, it allows you to use the two independently from each other at the same time. This means that, for example, you can get a contract GSM SIM for your voice call and a pre-paid 3G SIM card for your data, or you can use a 3G SIM card at home and use a GSM SIM card for local pre-paid SIM cards when you’re traveling.

Other features of the DX900 include a flush fitting VGA display, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 3Megapixel camera. We didn’t check out the hardware specifications, but we’ll try to do this at a later stage.

The V900 offers up a similar design, although the controls are slightly different. It drops the second SIM card and radio in favor of a built-in multi-format TV-tuner. With support for DVB-T, DVB-H, T-DMB and DAB radio, this should be a sure-fire hit on at least the European market.

Finally, we have the X610, which is a slightly modified version of the X600, the joystick has been replaced by a d-pad and the casing is slightly different and comes in solid black. This handset should be extremely price competitive, as it’s not a 3G device and it will end up toward the entry-level of E-TEN’s devices.

All three devices feature Windows Mobile 6.1, but we’re not sure if all devices still feature a GPS receiver. We’ll dig out some more details on these handsets later this week.
