Android Market surpasses billion downloads

by on15 July 2010

Yet another milestone
According to androlib.com statistics, the Android Market has marked a new milestone.

Stats indicate that more than 1 billion Android apps have been downloaded through the service since it was launched in October 2008.

Android Market currently carries more than 90,000 apps and it is estimated that it will hit the 100,000 mark later this month. All this bodes well for Google, as its mobile OS seems to be taking off quite well. More than 15,000 new apps have appeared in June alone and developers appear quite keen to join the Android bandwagon.

However, Apple’s App Store is still quite a bit more popular, as it offers nearly a quarter million apps and nobody is even bothering to count downloads anymore.
