In a recent conversation TI told Fudzilla that its Following OMAP 4460 with speeds up to 1.5GHz for ARM A9 dual core should find its way to a few devices already this fall. We heard that some devices based on TI 4460 should be out in October / November time, but the company didn't want to preannounce anything. We will have to wait for partners to do the introduction, but the deals are sealed.
TI claims that the new chip offers 25 percent performance increase in graphics and it will bring imaging to 1080p 24 fps. It will be pin to pin compatible making the design and change from slower 1GHZ part to a new one much faster.
TI product manager Brian Carlson told us that OMAP 4 4460 actually has some power advantages over the 4430 1GHz system on chip. It has improved memory latencies, the 1.5GHz clock will deliver more power and won't cost much in terms of battery life.
Looks like Qualcomm and Nvidia’s with Tegra 2 are getting some strong competition, a company that has some nice accounts including RIM and some Motorola. We should also see more tablets based on TI OMAP 4 and 5 next year, Brian said.
