Samsung rolls out 5.3-inch Galaxy Note smartphone

by on01 September 2011

Blurring the line between phone and tablet
Samsung is taking smartphones to the next level with its new Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch behemoth powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor.

However, some might argue that it is really no longer a phone, or just a phone, as it features a very big display in 1,280x800. Just a few years ago, this resolution was the norm on mainstream 15.4-inch notebooks. Despite the massive screen, the Note is just 9.7mm thick and it weighs 178 grams, which is a bit more than most smartphones, but still quite reasonable.

Samsung also bundles a stylus with the beast, and it promises that it can take full advantage of it thanks to a reworked TouchWiz optimization of Android 2.3. A few apps specifically designed for the stylus are on board, including a planner and memo apps.

There is still no word on pricing or availability, but don’t expect it to come cheap.
