ST-Ericsson already unveiled its 2.5GHz NovaThor L8580 CPU earlier this year, but it appears that the company is bringing a higher clocked version to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, set to open its doors in just under a week, on February 25.
In case you missed it, the NovaThor L8580 features four Cortex-A9 cores paired up with PowerVR SGX544 GPU clocked at 600MHz. According to t mobile-review.com, ST-Ericsson is bringing a 3GHz clocked version to the MWC floor. In order to keep the battery consumption at minimum the chip is made in the 28nm FD-SOI manufacturing technology. It also features ModAp that somehow optimizes the execution of the apps making them run up to 35 percent faster, and it also has support for dual cameras at up to 20 and 5-megapixels. LTE is on board as well.
The current king of the benchmark hill is definitely the recently introduced HTC One that firmly holds the crown with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipest, with a quad-core Krait 300 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU. Hopefully some of these new chipsets and CPUs, including the NovaThor L8580 will be benchmarked at the MWC 2013.
