BlackBerry is out

The US Department of Defense is reportedly planning to buy 650,000 iOS devices. They will replace the Pentagon’s fleet of obsolete BlackBerry devices. The DoD decided to ditch BlackBerry after it tested BB10 devices.

However, the order is not limited to iPhones. The DoD plans to buy 120,000 iPads, 100,000 iPad minis, 210,000 iPhones and, oddly enough, 200,000 iPod touches. Electronista has learned that more than half of the devices are headed to the battlefield, while the rest will stay at the Pentagon.

The decision to ditch BlackBerry came about after it was realized that older devices would not be compatible with BB10. The DoD currently uses about 470,000 BlackBerry devices, none of which support BB10.
