We had the pleasure of meeting Rene Haas a few times and under his lead Nvidia’s mobile business skyrocketed, winning a record mobile GPU market share.
Mobile in this context means notebooks and he was also the key guy for Windows on ARM (Windows RT) for Nvidia. He is the guy that kept us on our toes about external notebook graphics for quite some time here.
However, Rene has just joined ARM as Vice President, Strategic Alliances at the British chip designer. He was a well respected Nvidia general manager, but he is one of the many that left the company in over the last year or so.
One of the most notable chaps that left Nvidia is Drew Henry who is now Senior Vice President/General Manager, Mobile & Connected Solutions Business Unit at SanDisk. Philip Carmack is now CEO at Aptina and Mike Rayfield is now Vice President, Wireless Solutions at Micron Technology.
Rene Haas will have to work with numerous ARM partners ensuring that all runs well and this will definitely be a challenge since ARM dozens of partners that are licensing technology that gives Intel's x86 run for its money in the mobile space.
He spent seven years at Nvidia and he did a good job. He is a nice chap and of course we wish him all the best.
One thing is certain, he won't be easy to replace at Nvidia and we are not sure who is taking over this vital role.
