HTC launched the One M9 yesterday at the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. BestBuy leaked the US retail price yesterday, and it was supposedly $649. However early listings in Europe paint a much bleaker picture for HTC’s new flagship.
Mind you, we are not talking about a single source, or small shops for that matter – the €749 price comes from MediaMarkt, Saturn, norebooksbilliger.de and redcoon.de. All four are major e-tailers in the DACH region.
At the same time, the same retailers have listed Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 at €699. The sexier and pricier Galaxy S6 Edge is listed at €849. Naturally we are talking about 32GB models. Of course, these prices are not official and are subject to change, as neither phone is currently shipping.
While we could justify HTC's premium pricing in the past, when it squared off against plasticky Galaxy S models with nearly identical hardware, that's simply no longer the case, as the new Galaxy S6 has a premium build and a better spec all around.
