The Elephone S7 launched roughly a year ago, and it packed a MediaTek Helio X20 MTK6797 SoC, 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. The successor of this phone, called the Elephone S8, comes with a three-side bezel-less screen and an updated specification.

The Elephone S7 did well for a sub-$200 price category and today you can even get the 4GB RAM and 64GB version for $179.99.

The successor, called the Elephone S8, comes with MediaTek's Helio X20 CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and a 6-inch full HD three-side bezel-less screen.

It will launch with Android 7.0 OS and the phone comes with a 21-megapixel rear and an 8-megapixel front camera. Elephone decided against a dual rear camera trend for this model. We did tell you that smaller players out of China tend to delay their products. The Elephone S8 was promised for March and it didn't launch even today, the mid-part of April, and to make things worse, it probably won't for a while.

There might be a phone powered with highly anticipated Helio X30 deca-core manufactured in 10 nm featuring a very unique ARM core mixture, but the phone that might launch as the Elephone X8 might not come with bezel-less screen.

There is no doubt that there will be a lot of phones coming out of China with a bezel-less approach. Even the mighty Samsung Galaxy S8 has a nearly bezel-less design and both very tiny forehead and the chin of the phone, and as the strongest Android phone at the market, this will definitely set a lot of tone for the smaller competitor. The LG G6 also comes with a very small bezel but suffers from the bad case of last year’s Snapdragon 821 SoC that will have a hard time competing with the Galaxy S8 Snapdragon 830 / Exynos 8895, both in 10nm.
