Measuring 150.86x74.9x8.1mm and weighing in at 189g, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is a big smartphone but thankfully, most of the front is a 5.99-inch AMOLED edge-to-edge screen with 2:1 aspect ratio and 2160x1080 resolution. Unlike some earlier pictures, Xiaomi did not follow the notch trend so the front camera is located in the minimal bottom bezel.

As far as the body goes, Xiaomi used a four-sided glass body with Series 7000 aluminum frame. The top version uses ceramic instead of the glass. As noted, it has a rear dual-camera setup which is slightly raised and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C 2.0 connector, no 3.5mm audio port (comes with USB-C to audio adapter) and support for Wireless Qi charging.

As expected, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 SoC and comes in 6GB and 64GB storage, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and 8GB RAM and 256GB storage combination. Unfortunately, it lacks the microSD card slot. The rest of the specifications also include 2x2 MIMO 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, all the usual sensors, and a 3,400mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. It also supports all global 4G LTE bands, courtesy of Qualcomm's LTE modem.

All about the camera and the AI

A big part of the announcement was reserved for the new rear camera setup. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has a dual-camera setup, with two 12-megapixel sensors, one with a wide-angle, f/1.8 aperture lens and other behind a telephoto, f2.4 lens. It has a 4-axis OIS and something called hardware level multi-frame noise reduction, which basically takes multiple pictures and stacks them to reduce noise. Xiaomi was quick to brag that the rear camera got 101 points on the DxOMark benchmark.

The front camera, located in the bottom bezel, has a 5-megapixel sensor with real-time AI bokeh effect, 1080p support and a face recognition function, which is a part of AI features in the Mi Mix 2S.

There are plenty of AI features in the new Mi Mix 2S and most of them are focused on the camera, like AI Dynamic Bokeh, AI Super Resolution Photograph, AI Smart Artifact, AI Business Card Recognition, AI Smart Translation, AI Smart Currency Conversion, AI Polaroid, AI Make-up, AI Face Unlock, scene and label recognition, but you also get a brand new voice assistant, called Xiao AI.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will start selling directly from Mi.com and Mi Home stores on April 3rd and be available in white and black color options. The price is set at CNY3,299 ($530) for the 6GB+64GB version and CNY3,599 ($575) for the 6GB+128GB version. The top 8GB+256GB version with ceramic will go for CNY3,999 ($640) and come with a free Qi wireless charger.
