Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X

At its event in China, and after endless rumors and leaks, Xiaomi has now officially unveiled its Xiaomi 12 series smartphone, including the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the budget-oriented Xiaomi 12X.

Xiaomi is using the same 6.28-inch AMOLED screen for both the Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12X, while the flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro got the bigger 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED screen and quite a few other premium features, including a better camera system. The Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12 Pro got Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC, while the Xiaomi 12X had to stick with Snapdragon 870 SoC in order to keep the price down.

Xiaomi 12 to mark the series

Xiaomi 12 is a big surprise as the company decided to stick with a smaller screen, something that we did not see on a flagship series for quite some time. It uses Samsun's 6.28-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus, and it has a center-placed punch-hole for the selfie camera.

With such a screen, Xiaomi 12 is a smaller phone, measuring 152.7x69.9x8.2mm and weighing 180g. With a 6.28-inch 2400x1080 resolution screen, this leaves it with 419ppi pixel density and around 89 percent screen-to-body ratio.

As noted, Xiaomi equipped the Xiaomi 12 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC and it will be paired up with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The Xiaomi 12 uses a triple rear camera system with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main sensor. It is a 1/1.56-inch sensor placed behind a 26mm f/1.9 lens with PDAF and OIS. The main sensor is backed by a 13-megapixel sensor behind an ultrawide 12mm f/2.4 lens and a 5-megapixel sensor behind a 50mm telephoto and macro lens. There is also a dual-LED flash. The front camera is a 32-megapixel one behind a 26mm wide lens.

The rest of the specifications include an under-display fingerprint optical sensor, 4,500mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, USB Type-C port, stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, 802.11 WiFI 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Of course, the Xiaomi 12 will get the brand new MIUI 13 when it comes out.

Xiaomi 12 Pro is the new flagship

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is a much bigger smartphone, mostly thanks to its 6.73-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED screen with 3200x1440 resolution. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate but can adjust it from 1-120Hz depending on the need. The screen has a 1500nits maximum brightness, HDR10+ support, and is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus as well.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro measures 163.6x74.6x8.2mm making it both taller and wider than the Xiaomi 12, but still retains the same 8.2mm thickness. It weighs 205g, which is not bad considering it has a bigger battery.

As noted, the Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC, as well as the same RAM and storage options as the Xiaomi 12, 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB.

The biggest upgrade, aside from the screen, is the rear camera system. While it is still a triple system, it uses a better main Sony IMX707 50-megapixel 1/1.28" sensor with Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS, placed behind a 24mm wide f/1.9 lens. This one is backed by yet another 50-megapixel sensor behind a 48mm telephoto f/1.9 lens with 2x optical zoom and PDAF, and the third 50-megapixel sensor behind ultrawide f/2.2 lens.

The front camera remains the 32-megapixel one.

As noted, the Xiaomi 12 Pro got a larger 4,600mAh battery split into two cells, and supports 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, with 10W reverse wireless chragring. This is enough to charge it up via wire to 100 percent in 18mins and wirelessly in 42mins.

Since it is based on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC, the rest of the specifications are pretty much the same.

Xiaomi 12X is an interesting budget-oriented phone

The Xiaomi 12X is a rather interesting surprise as it combines some of the best features of the standard Xiaomi 12 but in a budget-oriented package with slightly less-capable but still pretty good Snapdragon 870 SoC.

It still comes with the same 6.28-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, the same triple rear camera system, and the same 4,500mAh battery with 67W wired charging support. Unfortunately, it lacks wireless charging.
