An online etail store has jumped the gun with Phenom X4 CPUs and it looks like AMD will launch 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4GHz parts. As we are sure that AMD head hunters will take this site down we took a snap shot copy for you; but it looks like AMD plans to start selling its 2.4GHz quad core part for US$330, which is still a bit steeper than Intel's price for its Q6600 quad core.
Intel sells its Q6600, 2.4GHZ quad core part for about $260 - $270 and AMD offers only AMD Phenom 9500 2.2GHz Quad Core 4MB Processor Socket AM2 HD9500WCGDBOX - Retail for US$279.99. We are quite sure that AMD will lose against the 2.40GHz Intel part and that the prices will go down closer to the launch.
These CPUs will work in existing AM2 motherboards but we suggest you get a new one with a new chipset, as we’ve heard that the 790FX will overclock really well.
