Mainstream Nehalem

The cheaper iteration of Nehalem codenamed Lynnfield is scheduled for Q3 2009. The cheapest iteration of this CPU will cost $200 in retail.

This means that apart from fitting to P55 boards, which will most definitely be much cheaper than X58, the CPU itself won’t really get much cheaper than Core i7.

The cheapest Core i7 920 will sell for $284 at launch and it will work at 2.66 GHz. This CPU in its lower segment will replace Q8200 and Q8300 quad-cores, the ones that just replaced Q6600 super popular quad-core.

The most expensive Lynnfield quad-core with eight threads will cost around $560 at launch and will sit shoulder to shoulder with Core i7 940.
