Lower TDP, same 3.6GHz turbo

We wrote about Intel's unlocked Core i7 875K and Core i5 655K processor a while ago, and it looks like the chipmaker is planning yet another CPU.

Core i7 870s is in the plans for a few months and this will be a lower clocked version of the Core i7 870. The Core i7 870s comes clocked at 2.66GHz while the plain Core i7 870 is clocked to 2.93GHz, but both CPUs can reach the 3.6GHz with Turbo.

The i7 870s has an 82W TDP, while the Core i7 870 has a TDP of 95W, but the rest of the specs is the same. Both chips are based on Lynnfield quad core and they both fit in Socket 1156.

We don’t know the price but it should most certainly be slower than Core i7 870 non S version.
