AMD is expanding its Fusion APU lineup with the G-series, designed for the embedded market and other industry applications.
The G-Series is based on the Bobcat core and much like the “civilian” versions it comes in 9W and 18W flavours. Both chips feature an integrated GPU core, memory controller, OpenCL and OpenGL support and dedicated video decoding engines.
AMD hopes to replace the Geode processors with the new APUs and the Geode should be gradually phased out by 2015. The new parts will find their way into thin clients, gaming machines, medical instruments, industrial control units, POS and kiosk systems.
We hear the Geode is looking to settle down and buy a nice little ranch in New Mexico.
