In an interview with Kitguru AMD Product Marketing exec and snappy dresser Sasa Marinkovic stressed the importance of Fusion in AMD’s plans to seize a foothold in some market segments previously dominated by Intel. Marinkovic believes consumers who are after a stylish no-nonsense PC will go for Fusion parts, particularly for home media systems and all-in-ones.
“AMD Fusion gives consumers the low price point and power consumption they need, alongside class-leading graphics capabilities and powerful multi-core processing”, said Marinkovic.
However, Fusion’s main battleground remains in the mobile space and Marinkovic was happy to point out that newly introduced AMD Fusion parts currently account for half of AMD laptop shipments in the world. This is rather impressive considering that AMD is shipping just two entry level parts, the C-50 and E-350, while the much more promising Llano architecture is coming in a few weeks.
The shift towards graphics-enabled processors will clearly give AMD a lot more breathing space and competitiveness in the laptop segment, traditionally dominated by Intel.
