HTC One X benched, embarrasses competition

by on27 March 2012

Snapdragon S4 lives up to expectations

HTC’s upcoming One X superphone is still a few weeks away, but an eager AT&T employee took the liberty of running a few benches on the new phone.

AT&T’s One X is based on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 SoC, while the One X is set to ship with Tegra 3 in Europe and most other markets. However, the dual-core S4 seems more that capable of holding its ground and it outpaces the quad-core Tegra 3 by a wide margin. Of course, the same applies to basically every other ARM-based device on the market.

In Vellamo and Quadrant, the S4 outpaced the Tegra 3 and the TI OMAP4 used in the Galaxy Nexus by a factor of two, and then some. Furthermore, the S4 is likely to be the most efficient ARM chip on the market.

We can’t say we are surprised by the results after months of S4 hype, but for once it is nice to see a chip actually live up to the hype.
