Bay Trail-D enables $249 desktops

Intel has released the new Atom Bay Trail-D based desktop specification with a rather attractive price point of sub-$249. The reference machine comes with a Celeron J1900 dual-core processor with two threads, 1MB cache, 2.41GHz base clock and it can Turbo to a rather modest 2.58 GHz. This is a 10W TDP part that does not need a lot of cooling.

The machine comes with 2GB memory, 250 GB HDD, DVD drive and Intel Wireless 2200 series. It comes with Windows 8 single language edition. For $299 to $349 Intel recommends a configuration based on a Pentium J2900 processor with four cores, 2MB cache, 2.41GHz base clock and 2.67 GHz turbo. It is a 10W cooler friendly Bay Trail processor with Intel HD graphics clocked at 688MHz and maximal graphic frequency locked at 896MHz.

The recommended configuration includes 4GB DDR3 memory, 500GB HDD, DVD RW, Intel Advanced N6205 wireless and Windows 8.1. Basic computing looks quite nice, but in case you fancy a Core processor an entry level desktop will cost you at least $349 to $549 depending on configuration.
