Nvidia is having a press event tonight at 8PM Pacific Time (4AM Central European Time) and it is holding it in the same hotel where AMD leaders are talking about their new APU, codenamed Kaveri.
Nvidia will showcase Tegra 5, codenamed Logan, and it will focus on the GPU performance part as this is what they are good at. The GPU is Kepler derived and is the best one to date by far. Many people confirmed the superiority of the new GPU, backed by quad A15 CPU cores, all done in 28nm. We were surprised that Tegra 5 doesn’t have integrated LTE, but it works with external Nvidia made LTE chip.
Despite the presentation Project Denver won’t actually be available anytime soon. It will show up in 2014 and onwards, we expect the first products next year, but we are missing a few details on it that we hope to learn from Nvidia tonight.
The codename was officially confirmed in January 2011 and of course this 64-bit CPU will be ARM based. This is Nvidia’s way of going after Qualcomm’s Krait cores, Samsung’s upcoming 64-bit custom cores and to some extent Apple’s 64-bit Cyclone cores.
