The roadmap reveals a number of interesting factoids, namely that MediaTek will not have 20nm products this year. Technically, MediaTek’s first 20nm SoC should launch sometime in the fourth quarter, which means that we are unlikely to see any devices based on the chip until the last few weeks of the year, if then.
The spec remains unclear, as the roadmap lists the chip as the MT67XX, an octa-core 64-bit part manufactured in 20nm. The good news is that the MT67XX will support LTE Cat 6 with carrier aggregation. The puzzling bit is that this chip overlaps with Mainstream 4G and Premium 4G product categories.
The company’s flagship SoC for 2015 will be the MT6795, an octa-core big.LITTLE part with four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 cores, clocked at up to 2.2GHz. The 28nm SoC also features LTE.
A number of mainstream and entry chips are due to launch in Q2 and early Q3. All are 28nm parts and all but the two entry-level parts are based on the Cortex-A53 core.
The MT6753 is set to feature eight Cortex-A53 cores and take care of the CDMA mainstream market, while the MT6735 and MT6735M will cover part of the mainstream market and the entry 4G market. The MT6735 and MT6735M share a similar spec, with four Cortex-A53 cores and CDMA, but they are clocked at 1.5GHz and 1.0GHz respectively.
The MT6580 and MT6570 are “cost down” SoCs for the entry 3G segment and they are based on the venerable Cortex-A7. Both parts are clocked at 1.3GHz, but the MT6580 is a quad-core, while the MT6570 is a dual-core design.
