The report, coming from Gamers Nexus site, AMD will allegedly bundle its Threadripper CPUs with Asetek retention kit, rather than a completely new AiO cooler. This move from AMD could both keep the price down and also provide compatibility for a wide line of AiO coolers based on Asetek's design, including CLCs (closed-loop-liquid coolers) from NZXT, EVGA and Corsair.
It is still not clear on how the base of existing AiO coolers will actually cover the two dies under the IHS due to the sheer size of the Threadripper but at least existing liquid cooler owners will have something to use when and if they buy the new Ryzen Threadripper CPU, at least if their AiO cooler is based on Asetek's design. Of course, there is a small question of Threadripper's high TDP as some coolers might not be able to handle the heat produce by this monster, especially when overclocked. We are quite sure that other manufacturers will also release retention kits that will make their coolers compatible with the new TR4 socket and hopefully some will even make coolers specific to the socket, which will cover the large area of the CPU.
