ASRock, Asus, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI show their motherboards

AMD has officially announced its new A620 chipset, giving an entry-level motherboard option for its Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. ASRock, Asus, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI have already announced their own motherboards, and AMD says these should start at $85.

According to AMD's announcement, "the AMD A620 chipset will be available beginning March 31 and will provide a streamlined, trusted platform with plenty of connectivity and bandwidth options. That includes options like DDR5 memory, AMD EXPO technology, one-click memory overclocking, and up to 32x PCIe 4.0 lanes to satisfy demanding home and office users." Although AMD directs it to their official site, the AM5 chipset lineup has yet to be updated with the A620.

In short, most of the motherboards will have a rather simple VRM, lack support for PCIe Gen 5, and limit these motherboards to PCIe Gen 4, for both graphics cards and storage options. We also expect them to lack USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 and mostly only two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. Interestingly, most should still support AMD's EXPO technology for "easy overclocking".

ASRock so far has announced a total of four motherboards, including the A620M Pro RS WIFI, the A620M Pro RS, A620M-HDV/M.2+, and the A620M-HDV/M.2. Most of them are standard entry-level motherboards, but the A620M Pro RS WIFI adds a few things to the table, including four-DIMM memory slots, M.2 Armor, reinforced PCIe slot, WiFi, and more.

Asus has three A620-based motherboards, the TUF Gaming A620M-Plus WiFi, the TUF Gaming A620M-Plus, and the Prime A620M-A. The TUF Gaming A620M-Plus leads the pack, but these will hardly fit AMD's $85 price bracket, as even the Asus Prime A620M-A is listed in Europe at €139.

Biostar unveiled a single A620 motherboard, the A620MP-E Pro, yet another microATX motherboard with four DDR5 DIMM slots, a single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, a single PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 NVMe slot, M.2 E-Key slot for WiFi, and mostly standard design with Realtek's 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, and a couple of USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports.

Gigabyte unveiled two motherboards, the A620M Gaming X AX, and the A620M Gaming X.

MSI also came up with a single A620 motherboard, the Pro A620M-E, which we suspect could end up being the least expensive one on the market.

These A620-based motherboards offer a less expensive option and could allow users to make a rather powerful, yet affordable system, possibly when pairing it up with a Ryzen 7000 non-X CPU or even one of the Ryzen 7000X3D series CPUs.
