While the launch will focus on both Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest, which are both part of the Xeon 6 lineup, the one eagerly expected is the Granite Rapids, which uses up to 128 Redwood Cove Performance cores (P-cores). Intel already launched some Sierra Forest SKUs back in June, which feature only Efficient cores (E-cores), making up to 144-core SKUs available with a 288-core SKU coming later this year.
"Intel will deliver more information about Xeon 6 processors with P-cores during a launch event in September," said Intel's announcement.
The flagship SKU from the Granite Rapids lineup was revealed earlier this week in Intel's submission to MLPerf inference benchmarks. The Xeon 6980P packs 128 P-cores, with 504MB of LLC cache, a base frequency of 2.0GHz, and a 500W TDP. Intel is expected to have 32-, 44-, 56-, 72-, 96-, and 120-core SKUs as well.
“The newest MLPerf results show how continued investment and resourcing is critical for improving AI performance. Over the past four years, we have raised the bar for AI performance on Intel Xeon processors by up to 17x based on MLPerf. As we near general availability later this year, we look forward to ramping Xeon 6 with our customers and partners,” said Pallavi Mahajan, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of Data Center and AI Software.
