Intel has reversed one of the most significant changes to its laptop chips -- getting rid of memory sticks  and it may abandon its GPUS plans.

Intel has officially launched the new Core Ultra 200V series processors, promising impressive performance and long-lasting battery life. With a total of 9 SKUs, Intel promises over 80 design wins from usual suspects like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, Samsung, and others, all available globally on September 24th.

Ahead of IFA 2024

Intel has now officially confirmed that its Core Ultra 200V "Lunar Lake" CPUs will be launched on September 3rd. Ahead of the IFA 2024 conference, Intel will hold a live-streamed event together with its partners.

17W chip for thin and light laptops

Geekbench database has revealed yet another Lunar Lake CPU SKU, an entry-level 17W chip aimed at thin and light laptops.

Intel has shed more details about its Lunar Lake architecture during the Tech Tour event, including details about all the improvements it will bring to the new Core Ultra mobile processors. This is an extensive list that includes new Lion Cove P-cores, Skymont E-cores, new NPU, the Arc Xe2 Battlemage GPU, and enhancements to the Intel Thread Director, all neatly packaged into a single-tiled SoC.

80 laptops, 20 OEM and 45+ TOPS NPU, fastest ever

Intel announced a bit more details about the next-generation notebook technology SoC codenamed Lunar Lake and synced it up with Microsoft’s Copilot+ announcement. Lunar Lake has new P and E cores, 1.5 times faster Battlemage graphics, 45+ TOPS NPU and an additional 60 TOPS from the GPU, advanced low power, and most importantly performance faster than Ryzen 7 8840U & Snapdragon X Elite. 

Discrete graphics might become even more discrete

New leaks into the graphics power of Chipzilla’s Xe2 Battlemage architecture on Lunar Lake indicate that onboard GPUs are about to get a whole lot beefier, ready to smash out some serious frame rates.

Laptops on shelves before Christmas

In addition to announcing the new Gaudi 3 AI accelerator and unveiling the new Xeon 6 branding for upcoming Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest processors, at its Vision 2024 event Intel also revealed a bit more information about the upcoming Core Ultra Lunar Lake processor for laptops.
