The maker of jolly expensive printer ink, HP may change its mind about spinning off its PC business.
Ray Lane, HP chairman said HP may retain the PC business. The outfit can bring a large amount of cash flow but only thin profit, and that HP has yet to make the final decisions on its fate. He said that if HP cannot provide a better option to clients and investors, PC business will remain in HP.
If the outfit does change its mind contract makers of HP, such as Hon Hai and Inventec, will be opening the champers. Acer and ASUS had been hoping to nick some business from HP after the sellout or spin off of its PC business.
Lane hoped that even if HP spins off its PC business, the new company should still contain “HP” in its title and become an affiliate of HP, just like Agilent, which was spun off from HP in 1999.
