AMD brings in more suits
Headhunting for fun and profit
AMD's HR team have been hunting for heads in the wilds of silicon valley and have bought home a few to lead them in the coming crisis.
According to AMD, Rajan Naik has joined the company as senior vice president and chief strategy officer. He will report to president and chief executive officer Rory Read. Naik was a partner in McKinsey & Company's Technology and has been told to come up with a cunning plan to sort out AMD's woes.
He will be responsible for AMD's short- and long-term strategy development, including market opportunities, strategic partnerships and investment strategies. Read said Naik “possesses a strong track record of execution in strategic planning, product and market strategy, and operational performance". This probably means that we can expect to see a few people in AMD executed in the next few months.
Naik is also supposed to help AMD take advantage of growth opportunities in lower power computing, emerging markets and cloud computing." He spent 11 years at McKinsey & Company, where he advised some of the greats of the technology and telecom industries. Before that he worked at Intel and before that he was lurking at Lucent Technologies.
Naik joins AMD following the appointment of Dr. Lisa Su as senior vice president and general manager, global business units, as well as the appointment of Mark Papermaster as senior vice president and chief technology officer.
