Pegatron expects more doom this quarter

Nothing happening until Windows 8 ships

Pegatron Technology has warned that its third quarter will be rubbish as consumers delay purchases until the launch of Windows 8 in October.

The company said that its third-quarter shipments of notebooks to decrease by 15-20 per cent. Netbooks, (remember those) will fall by half and and motherboards and desktops together by 5-10 per cent. Company CEO Jason Cheng said that new models of tablet PCs and smartphones will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2012 and this should mean that his company's fourth-quarter consolidated revenues are likely to hit a quarterly record.

Pegatron's overall capacity utilisation has risen from 70 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 to 90 per cent currently, Cheng said. Production capacity at its factory in Shanghai, eastern China, is about two times that at its factory in Chongqing, western China, Cheng said.
