The services spluttered and angered countless users who were planning to show their mates what they were eating for dinner, and the latest snap of their cat sleeping in an amusing position. Other services known to rely on Amazon, including Netflix, IFTTT, Heroku and Airbnb to name a few have been experiencing similar issues. Instagram and Vine did come back and tweets moaning about a Netflix outage slowly dried up.
What appears to have happened was that the company’s north Virginia data centre decided to take a day off. Amazon has been reporting issues with its EC2, relational database, and load-balancing services for the past two hours. It appears that they’ve managed to lock down the root issue and are currently cleaning up.
It looks like the worst is over, but is bad news for those who thought that the Cloud would bring stability to their networks.
