Needed for bendy iPhones

LG Display has announced that is investing in a new production line to create more flexible OLED displays.

The move is apparently to cover its client Apple which cannot make a phone with enough structural support to stop it bending.

But it might also help those who innovate come up with new products which are supposed to bend. A bendy display is also less likely to shatter when it is dropped

LG Display has announced plans to invest in a production line at the Gumi Plant in Gyeongbuk Province, Korea.

The new line will produce more than 200 cuts 5.5-inch cuts from a single plastic substrate sheet.

Mass production is not expected to begin until early 2017.

LG said that the new flexible plastic OLED displays will replace the traditional glass screens, and will now be extended across smartphone, automotive and wearable device displays.

The investment will help to advance the production of foldable displays, LG confirmed.
