Uber experimental autonomous taxis pick up real people

If you are loyal enough

Uber has started picking up passengers in its experimental autonomous vehicles in Pittsburgh.

Uber officially claims that only its "loyal" customers in the area could receive a ride in an autonomous Ford Fusion when they request one through UberX. Although there is the risk of sudden death, your trip is free if you end up being part of a test.

The rides are restricted since Uber can only use roads and routes that it has already carefully explored. However, it is not as rare as it appears as the routes are popular. It is not as if the car does not have a taxi driver. By law each autonomous vehicle includes a human behind the wheel, just in case something goes wrong.

In time the human is expected to be phased out at about the same time that the passenger loses their job because they get replaced by robots.
